The origin of Gulf College (GC) dates back to 1990 when it was established as a professional and vocational training provider in the Sultanate of Oman. The growth of the institution from a training institute to a college has been over different phases. In 1996, the first Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme was offered in Oman. In 2003, the approval from Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Oman to upgrade the status from a training institute to a Higher Education College was granted and this approval also included the license to offer ten undergraduate programmes of Staffordshire University (SU). In September 2014, Gulf College moved to its new purpose-built campus in Mabela, developed the new strategic plan and entered into an agreement with Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMET) as an additional academic partner.
Gulf College currently has over 3500 students and around 200 staff from various countries. The majority of students are employed (70%) and so study in the evening. To cater to this the College offers all of its programmes twice a day – in the morning and evening sessions. GC offers Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business and Management Studies, marketing Management, Business Economics and Accounting and Finance and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Information System, Computing Science, Mobile Computing and Information Systems. GC also offers the Master of Business Administration programme and the General Foundation Programme. All of the College’s programmes are offered in partnership with Staffordshire University and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
